QuickBooks Desktop end of life – what are your options?

You’re all probably aware by now but QuickBooks is discontinuing QuickBooks Desktop. From the 1st of June 2022, you will also no longer be able to access any services such as Live Support, QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Services, Online Banking, Online Backup and other QuickBooks Desktop services. Not only do you lose certain features and the live technical support but you will no longer receive the latest updates and security patches.

What should you do next?

It may feel quite daunting, however, now is a really good time for you to evaluate your options. QuickBooks is recommending the migration to their newer software, QuickBooks Online. This may be appealing as it’s technically a quick and easy option, but have you considered what other products are out there and whether QuickBooks Online is actually the best solution for your business?

Before we get into your alternative options there are some things you should consider whilst you go through the evaluation process:

  • What does the business need from finance over the next 5 years?
  • Do you want Cloud or server-based software?
  • Are the systems the right ones to help you grow?
  • How many concurrent users will you need?
  • What is your maximum monthly budget for the software?
  • What do your decision-makers need to understand/see?
  • When is your ideal go-live date?
