5 Common Signs that you’ve outgrown Sage 50cloud

Slow, error-prone Month End processes
Whether its bank reconciliation, end of month journals or invoice entry that slows you down, Month End can be a painful process in Sage 50cloud. The lack of automated capabilities makes this a heavily manual process.
Manual data entry & excessive spreadsheet usage
After entering all your invoices and journals manually, do you then print off a trial balance report and copy and paste into an Excel sheet? Many of our ex-Sage 50 customers do the majority of their reporting in spreadsheets, not only is this not the most efficient way to report but it also leaves more room for error.
System running slow and freezing
As your data in Sage 50 grows it's not uncommon to experience time-delays when navigating the system or perhaps the system crashing altogether. This can be extremely frustrating if you’re in the middle of your bank reconciliation and haven’t saved yet.
Data errors and corruption
Unfortunately, we often hear of Sage 50 users having issues with Data errors and corruption. This isn’t fatal and can be repaired by Sage, however, this can leave you with no system for days whilst it gets rectified.
Struggling to get into the system when out of the office
Due to Sage 50cloud being an on-premise solution, you may find you struggle to access your system easily when you're outside of your office. This can really disrupt productivity and is a big limitation of on-premise solutions.

Migrating from Sage 50 to Sage 200 Standard

Sage 50 is an incredibly versatile, simple to use system that is a great all-rounder package. However, if your business has outgrown Sage 50, where do you go next? The migration path a lot of businesses make from Sage 50 is to Sage 200 Standard. It can seem to be a long and costly process having to change and migrate your data from one system into another. You will have to consider the costs of the migration of the data, training of the team and the additional time it takes you to make your daily and monthly accounting routines efficient again. However, long term, this investment will end up saving you time and money due to the upgrade being a step up to a more powerful finance solution that will allow for automation and no more dreaded workarounds.

Why do businesses that outgrow Sage 50 move onto Sage 200 Standard?

Multi-Company

Whilst it is possible to have multiple companies in Sage 50 each is held totally separately from one another. As your portfolio grows, this could start to become difficult to manage.

Sage 200 Standard allows you to easily move between companies in as little as a few clicks.

Multi-Location

Within Sage 50, you are limited to one warehouse to hold your stock. Whilst you may develop workarounds for this, this can quickly become messy and complex when it comes to moving stock between locations.

Sage 200 Standard supports multiple warehouse locations as well as multiple bin locations within each warehouse. Transferring stock between locations is quick and easy, giving you greater confidence and trust in your stock management.

Company Consolidation

With multiple companies comes the need for consolidation. Sage 50 doesn’t have the functionality to do company consolidation within the system. Meaning you have to take your data out of Sage 50 and into a spreadsheet in order to create consolidated reports.

In Sage 200 Standard each company can be given a parent company, you can then use the consolidation tool within the system to roll up each nominal code, cost centre and department into a single consolidated view.

Powerful and Customisable Reporting

Sage 50s reporting suite is great for delivering the basics. In order to promote growth, businesses need a more granular and analytical view of their financial data. Sage 50s one-tier nominal and analysis codes become very restrictive as you try to delve deeper into the detail.

Sage 200 Standard's three-tier nominal plus twenty analysis codes provide you with plenty of ways to get granular in your data. This coupled with the extensive reporting suite including Power BI dashboards, Excel Reporting, Workspaces and Sage Report Designer gives businesses powerful analytics directly within the system.

Improved Month End Process

Month-end in Sage 50 can quickly become a messy and complicated process with many tasks taking place outside of the system.

Sage 200 Standard allows you to gain greater control over your month-end processes with period end management, closed period accounting, foreign currency revaluation, automatic bank feeds and company consolidation. This allows you to spend less time inputting data and more time analysing it.

What is the migration process like from Sage 50 to Sage 200 Standard?

The migration from Sage 50 to Sage 200 Standard is very easy and straightforward. Sage 200 Standard comes with a migration tool that enables you to carry your data across to the new system. There are three options when it comes to your Sage 50 to Sage 200 Standard data migration:

1.

Record only import.
If you are only interested in bringing across your customer/supplier/nominal accounts and would like to enter opening balances yourself, you can do a record only import. This useful for businesses who have data clean up to do.

2.

Records & Opening Balance only import.
If you would like to just bring across your customer/supplier/nominal accounts and opening balances, this is also a straightforward migration. Useful for businesses who do not require the detail of a transactional migration but want their migration to be free from manual entry.

3.

Full Transactional Migration.
If you want to bring all your data across from Sage 50 to Sage 200 Standard this is possible, however, it is a slightly more complex process. A full transactional migration would include Customer, Supplier and Nominal accounts, Sales and Purchase Transactions, Bank Account and Bank Account and Nominal Transactions.
