As the Canadian philosopher Nelly Furtado once wrote and sang, “Why do all good things come to an end?” I am left with a thought about how our Sage 200 Extra Online customers are managing with knowing that their software will be ceasing to exist on the 30th September 2022.

To quote Ms Furtado,

“Come to an end come to an
Why do all good things come to an end?

Flames to dust
Lovers to friends
Why do all good things come to an end
Come to an end come to an end
Why do all good things come to end?”

Now, although there is no mention of the popular and loved accountancy software, I know that many of you may be wondering what options you now have available.

Hopefully, in this blog, I can give you a flavour of the different options you have moving from Sage 200 Extra Online and over to a new piece of Sage accounting software.

Why is Sage 200 Extra Online coming to an end?

As a business, Sage regularly review the software and services that they offer to businesses in the UK and Ireland.

This supports them in investing in the right areas and creating solutions that customers need and sometimes in order to do that, they will remove products that no longer fit into their portfolio moving forward.

As a result of this Sage 200 Extra Online moved into extended support in February 2021, and as of the 30th September 2022, the product will be retired and will no longer be available to anyone to use. If you are a current user of the product then now is the time to evaluate your options, your needs and a realistic budget and timeline as you need to be on your new platform prior to the 30th September 2022.

With all the options above we have shown some of our favourite features for each and we can help you work through your current processes, needs and where you are currently using Excel or other products outside of Sage 200 Extra Online that you realise would be more efficient and accurate if done within your software.

What should you be considering?

Things to consider whilst going through this evaluation process can be as simple or complicated as you need it to be in order to justify any additional costs for your new software, even on a basic level we would recommend you consider the following five points:

  • Cloud or internal server-based?
  • The overall number of concurrent users.
  • Maximum monthly budget for the software (bear in mind implementation costs are usually 1.25-1.5 times the annual cost).
  • Ideal Go-Live date pre 30th September 2022 (Financial year-end, or after a VAT submission?)
  • Who are your decision-makers and what do they need to see/understand?
