In the world of business management software, evolution is a constant. As businesses strive for greater efficiency and competitiveness, Sage remains at the forefront of innovation. The much-anticipated release of Sage 200 2023 R2 is on the horizon, and it brings with it an array of exciting features that promise to redefine how businesses manage their operations. In alignment with this, Sage provides a roadmap that sheds light on the forthcoming enhancements which we are so excited to share with you.

Sage 200 2023 R2 is set to release on the 25th of August 2023. Please note that the 2023 R2 update is not final, and the changes listed below are not guaranteed to be in the next release.

What’s included in the newest release of Sage 200?

  1. Web Screen Customisation

The upcoming release introduces an enriched Web Screen Customisation feature, which places the power of tailored user experiences in the hands of businesses. As Sage 200 continues on its journey of product modernisation, Sage is delighted to announce that they’ll be bringing to life two new customisation approaches to the software:

  • Web Amendability model – low code driven approach to allow customisation of web screens without the use of our developer/ISV tooling.
  • Full customisation – all of the functionality of the light Amendablity model, the capabilities of our current development tooling, and the ability to customise existing web screens, add new web screens, and add new fields to the Sage 200 API. *Only available/applicable in Sage 200 Professional

This change allows those using the developers/ISV tooling the ability to customise their web screens easily, enhancing the possibility to meet all the company’s reporting needs, and overall improving the convivence of the tool. This allows more options similar to the workspaces you may use within Sage 200.

  1. Sage Partner Cloud Operating System Changes

In the pursuit of optimal performance, Sage 200 2023 R2 embraces operating system changes in the Sage Partner Cloud. These changes are designed to enhance cloud functionality, providing a smoother, more responsive experience for users.

This shift includes deployments of Sage 200 Professional via the Sage Partner Cloud Programme which will deploy onto Windows 11 from this release. Any upgrades of existing sites will also use Windows 11. *This feature is only applicable to Sage 200 Professional

This feature change does not affect existing systems but changes the way Sage 200 Professional is deployed by Sage and Sage’s business partners moving forwards.

New call-to-action

  1. API Updates: Catalysing Integration Capabilities

The new release recognises the importance of seamless integration within a digital ecosystem. With updated APIs, Sage 200 2023 R2 empowers businesses to connect their systems more effectively, ensuring efficient data flow and real-time insights. This enhancement not only streamlines operations but also sets the stage for data-driven decision-making. In this release, Sage has continued to work to build out their API – a variety of endpoints have been updated or enhanced.

With the addition of more endpoints, the integrations with the Sage API are instantly improved. Giving users a wider range of data, you can bridge into your Sage 200 ERP system. A great example of an add-on that will be improved by this, which we recommended here at itas, is the Power BI integration. If you would like more information or to have a chat about how you can use APIs in your system, then please get in touch!

  1. Intrastat for Republic of Ireland: Simplifying Compliance

The complexities of compliance are a common challenge in business. Sage 200 2023 R2 addresses this by introducing Intrastat capabilities tailored for the Republic of Ireland. This addition allows the use of the double-digit nature of transaction codes for dispatches and arrivals.

With this addition, users will now be able to match compliance with new regulations. Previously you could only enter a single digit (1-9). However, you will now be able to enter double digits, similar to HMRC’s double-digit Intrastat entries. Sage is continuing to ensure it’s up to date with the latest government compliance with the information found here.

  1. Database Changes/Customization Capabilities

Recognising the diverse needs of businesses, Sage 200 2023 R2 offers enhanced database changes and customization capabilities. This feature enables businesses to adapt the system to their unique requirements, fostering a tailored approach to managing operations.

There is now an increase in the number of spare fields available from 12 per entity to 20 per entity granting developers a larger arsenal of customisation capabilities. This includes a variety of field types, available to use in Sage’s Web Amendability model available for use with the web screens mentioned earlier in this release.

  1. SDK – Developer Tooling: Update

For businesses seeking even greater customisation and innovation, the inclusion of Software Development Kits (SDKs) is a game-changer. This developer tooling allows businesses to create custom solutions that seamlessly integrate with Sage 200, enabling them to address specific needs and unlock new possibilities. In this latest update, Developer/ISV SDK tooling will be license controlled. *Only available/applicable in Sage 200 Professional

Sage 200 uses the Evolution SDK which has revolutionised how developers create bespoke solutions on the software. From a user level, you will not notice this change, but if you are involved with the development side of Sage 200, this is something to be aware of!

Conclusion

With advancements in web screen customisation, the Sage Partner Cloud, API, Intrastat for the Republic of Ireland, database customisation capabilities, and SDK developer tooling. Businesses are primed for enhanced efficiency, seamless integration, and tailored solutions. As the business landscape continues to evolve, embracing these innovations will undoubtedly pave the way for greater success and competitiveness in an ever-changing world.
