Are you new to Sage 200?  Are you stuck trying to find your way around?  It’s like that first day in High School, it’s a big old place, corridors going off here, corridors going off there. Multiple classes to find, multiple teachers to figure out instead of your one happy place, one class, one teacher.

The good news is you can cheat/make your life easier in Sage 200 and it won’t be frowned upon by the teachers or us as consultants, we promise!

Let’s start by looking at the main menu bar down the left.  At first glance, it looks reasonable, small and like you can manage what is there but if you’re not careful and you click too many times that bar turns from a nice small bar to a never-ending folder of sub-folders of sub-folders of sub-folders.  Even the best tracker/navigator in the world would get lost there.  Well, all is not lost, a couple of handy hints coming up your way so that you can find your way around.

Why customising Sage 200 is beneficial

There are a few reasons why customising your Sage 200 for you is beneficial. The first reason is, it will save you so much time in the long run. It may not seem like it now with you having to set it up from scratch, but I promise you’ll thank me later. By tailoring the platform to suit your unique workflows and requirements, you unlock so many benefits that will enhance productivity and efficiency.

You’ll not only save time, but by personalising Sage 200, this will also minimise the risk of errors, which in turn, leads to improved accuracy in financial reporting and analysis!

Our favourite Sage 200 customisations

Below are just a few of our favourite customisations that Sage 200 offers. It makes life so much easier for you instead of having to find everything from scratch!

The Search Option

This is my friend, especially when I jump around from 200 Standard to 200 Professional and things are in different places.  Type in a keyword that you are looking for, hit enter and as quick as a flash, you are presented with some results.  You can simply click on what you need, and better still, if you right-click and select show in menu, you will then be shown where you can find it next time.  Better still right-click and add to favourites (see create your own favourites menu below!)

Create your own favourites menu

Adding items to your favourites and creating your own personalised menu could not be any easier.  Got a screen you like the look of?  Click that to start in the top right-hand corner and make it shine bright, right-click on the main menu and Add to favourites. All the screens you like and use regularly, you can add to their own menu on the left-hand side, and you can also remove the clutter of things you no longer need.  Better still, create folders for different modules, e.g., Sales, Purchases etc.

As you can see on the left, this is the normal menu that comes as standard for everyone. On the right is my favourites tab which is where all my favourites are stored for easy access!

Personalise your landing page

So now we can navigate around Sage 200 more easily and get to the areas that we want, better than Phileas Fogg in his balloon! We now want to see what we want to see and that’s where changing your home page and customising your lists comes into play.  Simply right-click the list, process map, or workspace on the left-hand menu bar and select Make My HomePage. Then, the next time you log in to Sage 200, this is what you will see.

If you have the default homepage and you’re tired of having to click through to the modules on the left-hand side, you can set the home page as the main screen that you use within Sage 200!

Customise your ledger list views

There is a wealth of information held in all the various records within the software; customer/supplier/nominal/stock, to view this information you might feel you have to view the full record or run a report.  This is not necessarily the case. Within the list views of all modules, you get a default list of information to view, and it’s not always everything you want to see. Well, you can simply right-click your mouse button and select the columns that are important to you and take away the ones that you don’t want.

Not only can you add the columns, but you can quickly rearrange the columns to your own preference.  All of these changes are stored and remembered for the next time you log in.

Do you use the Workspaces a lot?  Are you wanting to view additional information?  Again, you can customise these screens with a simple right-click on Column Selector and choose which columns you want to see and reorganise them again to your preference.

Want to quickly complete an action in another part of the software? Right-click and go to Action Selector and select which actions appear where.
